The Profile Awards were created after the fall of the Old Man of the Mountain in 2003 to recognize an individual, an organization, and a municipality embodying the strength of character of the Old Man. Recipients are chosen based on their contributions to the state in preserving New Hampshire’s heritage, culture, resources, traditions, and history.
Winners may be nominated by anyone, and a committee of past winners makes the final selections. These are announced at a reception held annually on May 3, the anniversary of the fall of the Old Man. The award is a hand-crafted, specially commissioned granite and glass sculpture by artist Andre Belanger of Berlin.
