What We Do

The Old Man of the Mountain Legacy Fund is a private, non-profit organization that grew out of the task force appointed by Governor Craig Benson after the collapse of the Old Man of the Mountain on May 3, 2003.

The Legacy Fund works in partnership with the NH Division of Parks & Recreation to provide a "lasting legacy of remembrance" for the Old Man of the Mountain. The Fund's primary focus is the construction of a large-scale monument that will provide an exciting new visitor attraction and honor the state's much-loved emblem. The planned monument design, by Ron Magers and Shelly Bradbury, has three components: the Profilers (phase one), a gateway honoring those who worked to preserve and protect the Old Man (phase two), and five large standing stones that, when viewed in alignment, form the profile of New Hampshire's signature emblem (phase three).

The Legacy Fund also sponsors the annual Profile Awards, maintains a museum exhibit at Cannon Mountain's Tramway building, and provides traveling displays and lectures for classrooms and group events across the state. Please join us honoring the Old Man of the Mountain.
